Have you ever wondered how creative stickers are made?
For me, the process begins with the design phase, where I spent around 30 minutes brainstorming about what message I wanted my sticker to convey, and then devoted 45 minutes to creating the digital design itself. This phase involved translating my initial ideas into a tangible layout, experimenting with different shapes, fonts, and visuals until I achieved a design that I felt was impactful and cohesive Once finalized, I then printed it onto a high-quality sticker paper using a Silhouette Cameo Vinyl Plotter printer to ensure vibrant colors and crisp details.
The remaining 45 minutes were spent in the Maker Lab, where I executed the final stages of the project. This included testing the printer specifications, performing the actual printing of two separate cuts, and then removing excess material from the sticker to ensure a clean finish. The final step was the sticker transfer, which required attention to detail to ensure the design was applied smoothly without any bubbles or misalignments.
The most valuable part of this project was the opportunity to familiarize myself with the equipment and materials in the Maker Lab at Santa Clara University. As it was my first time using this machine, I was initially apprehensive about potentially making mistakes or damaging the equipment. However, after successfully producing cuts that precisely matched my digital design, I gained confidence in operating the machine.
